Royal Military Guard House

Royal Military Guard House, Kingston, Ontario

It is believed that this structure was built in the mid 1840s, at the time of the Oregon Crisis, when Point Frederick, now the Royal Military College, was the British Royal Navy Yard.

The intention of this project was to assess the condition of the building, to examine the historic record, and to advise the Department of National Defense how any future maintenance activities could enhance the heritage character of the building.

As is always the case, historic photographs were critical to understanding the evolution of the building.

Technical advice covered items such as improved roofing details.
